Greetings from your new resident of Banff!!!
It is official! I now reside on Beaver St*, Banff, work full time as a Barista at the main ‘coffee shop’ (not cafe) in town called Good Earth, and officially say ‘for sure’ (which is now pronounced, “fer sher”) and “ey” at the end of every sentence!
Arriving in town, everything was so surreal. You feel like you are living in a post card, with large snow capped mountains resting all around you. The sun rises later at 7.30am and there is barely a sound in town. It is so peaceful, and if the weather is right, snow gently floats in the air all around you.

As the day goes on, the sleepy town begins to wake. The sun glistens off the snow on the mountains and it is the most brilliant white I’ve ever seen. When the sun sets, the sky turns from blue to firey crimson, and leaves the mountains as dark silhouettes almost insignificant to the contrasting colours.

The people in town are lovely and easily the friendliest and nicest people I have ever met. Spending my first few weeks in the Samesun Hostel, I have met a lot of people who work there or were visiting the Beaver Bar there (I may or may not have spent a decent amount of time in this bar while living in the hostel…) Majority are Australians. It’s funny to think I thought I would lose my accent here! If anything it will probably get worse!! But there are also a decent amount from the UK, and then I would say third comes Canadians mixed in with Europeans.

I have come to learn that Banff is a town with many things to offer, and it is what you make it. I have been fortunate to travel up to Sunshine Ski Village and spend a few days up there. Everyone says the spring season hasn’t been that great, however I think the snow has been pretty fantastic (compared to what I’m used to)! Outside of snowboarding, I have been working, and enjoying a taste of the Banff nightlife. Funnily, you can go out every single night in Banff, but Saturdays. People stay in Saturdays because that’s when all the blow ins come to town lol. The partying here is definitely a new level compared to sleepy Manly town. Perhaps more stories on that to come…
All in all, just a short recap on the new life in Banff. More stories to come 🙂
Over & out.
